… at the Inaugural Music City Roots: Live from the Loveless Cafe was Absolutely Amazing. I’m still coasting on the fumes of adrenaline and awe. On the MCR website, they have posted some reviews & thoughts of the historical evening. Below are some quotes about Robin & I specifically. Click on the title to go directly to the full article.
Feminine Mystique
“Emerging artists Robin Aigner and Annie Crane hail from New York, where they are carrying on Harris’s tradition of refashioning folk music in a modernist and urbane guise”. - Craig Havighurst
And Then The Angels Sang
“Annie Crane and Robin Aigner then took the stage with some generous applause. A winning duo of women from Brooklyn, they sang a nice, opening song and then hurled themselves into Hank Williams’, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”. They shone like lovely, earnest, Brooklyn girls…”. - Jefferson Ross

Todd Mayo & Jon Walker have worked hard for years to bring this project to fruition. “Music City Roots: Live From The Loveless Cafe,” is a weekly show built on the remarkable Americana music scene and the legacy of WSM’s historic roots in live radio.

Two of Brooklyn’s most dynamic acts, Annie Crane and Robin Aigner will open for folk legend Emmylou Harris on October 14 at the inaugural night of Nashville’s “Music City Roots: Live from the Loveless Cafe” airing live on world-famous WSM radio and streaming live on www.wsmonline.com. Crane and Aigner’s spring ‘09 tour was so well-received that Annie, who entices with urban Americana, and Robin, who spices things up with old-timey/gypsy folk, are touring together again; this time October 8-18, with the WSM show with Emmylou Harris just one of the many highlights. Both Annie and Robin are promoting recently released and critically acclaimed albums: “Through the Farmlands and the Cities” (Crane) and “Bandito” (Aigner).

“Local Annie Crane plays fabulous folk with enough thoughtful twang to transport you back in time…and down South”. Time Out NY
Writing from a Folk/Punk perspective, Brook Pridemore of JezebelMusic.com says, “Crane’s proven that her gentle brand of country folk carries just as much weight as the ‘insurgent’ stuff I’m regularly drawn to… In a more just world, “I’ll Be Right Here” would get as much airplay as “Not Ready to Make Nice” (or some other dogshit young country track)”. Brook Pridemore, JezebelMusic.com
“Few artists have the ability to take you along with them; to make you feel as if you’re a spectator of the travels and defining moments… Crane has assembled a wonderful, lively documentation of her experiences and she makes it easy and enjoyable for you to sing along with her”. Christopher Grzan, Praiseforwallflower.com
“This album is folk rock in its purest form… I am looking forward to what is to come in the future from Annie Crane. If you get the chance to listen, do not pass it up!” Rickard Holmgren, Melodic.net
“Annie Crane, who has a very high and pure voice, show(s) a lot of lyrical and musical talent”. Martin Overheul, Altcountryforum.nl

TWO BROOKLYN NEO-FOLK SONGBIRDS TOUR SOUTHEAST, BRAND-NEW ALBUMS IN TOW
Two of Brooklyn’s most popular singer/songwriters will be touring the Southeast April 30 through May 9—and celebrating simultaneous album releases. With Annie Crane’s urban Americana wanderings and Royal Pine’s old-timey gypsy gatherings, it is sure to be a tour of and for fearless folk.
“Mature, minimalist, and she’s got depth to her voice that lends credence to even her most mythical poetic wanderings. Finally, here’s a girl-guitar combo that is unapologetic but never angsty”. Urban Folk Zine, Issue 16
Annie Crane’s ethereal original music woos crowds with stories of immigrant grandparents, February ice storms, heartache in snowy Toronto and an industrially sweet Brooklyn love. Crane has played the Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Musichall and countless other famed NY venues. She returns this year to the New Jersey Folk Festival as a main stage featured act, has toured the Southeast and New England, appeared on numerous radio programs (Americana Crossroads, WTBU’s “Over Yonder”) and shared the stage with the Corduroy Road, Au Revoir Simone and The Bowmans.

“With wild hair and gypsy music, she brings an ache-y folk sound to the stage. Singing songs of Winnebago’s and the 1977 blackout, Royal Pine is what would happen if The Mamas and The Papas merge with Loretta Lynn and picked up the ukulele”. Nuvo
Royal Pine, a one-woman show, featuring former member of Crooked Jades Robin Aigner, has toured extensively in the Southeast, been featured on countless radio broadcasts (WDVX’s Blue Plate, Americana Crossroads) and festivals (3 years at Bristol Rhythm & Roots, among others) and has shared tours and bills with The Everybodyfields, Ian Thomas, The Be Good Tanyas, Two Man Gentleman Band and more. Royal Pine’s quirky, irreverent old-timey/gypsy folk has a loyal following in the Southeast.
